Settlement Reached in Utility Allowance Case

Settlement has been reached in the case of Blake v. City and County of Honolulu. Tenants at Westlake housing project sued the City for years of rental overcharges due to an improperly calculated utility allowance. The U.S. District Court for the District of Hawai'i recently approved the proposed settlement of $500.00 per tenant (for tenants who remained at the project throughout the relevant period). Notice of the Settlement is available here.

A final fairness hearing is set for March 19, 2010 before the Honorable Judge Leslie Kobayashi.

The case was litigated by LEJ staff and Paul Alston and Jason Kim of the law firm of Alston, Hunt, Floyd & Ing.
